Domestic Abuse | Clare's Law

*Disclaimer* - This is not a post to gain pity or your sympathy. This is a post, which is related to my life, on a very difficult subject and one that I am very passionate about.

Source

Last year, I went through a terrifying time. A 'relationship' with an absolute creep and an all together, horrid man.  I've touched on this slightly on my blog before, but never in detail. I'm still not ready to write about this in full detail and I honestly don't think I will be for a very long time, but after seeing a video on Facebook recently, I thought it was time to write something. I was in a 'relationship' with a guy who told me he was 24. It turned out to be abusive, both physically and mentally ( I was very lucky that the majority was mentally and I only experienced the tiniest of physical abuse) and although it only lasted just over a month and a half, it was the scariest time of my life and to this day I still have nightmares and panic attacks.  I was manipulated to believe that my family were against me and he got so far in my head that he made me believe a lot more things. I lost a lot of weight, did a lot of things that I did not want to do (and things that I thought I would never do) and made a lot of bad decisions due to him being inside my head. He took over my life and alienated me from everybody, hurting me more than I thought along the way. I didn't know it at the time, but this plus everything else that I cannot bring myself to talk about (some things that not even my parents know about this time) was classed as Domestic Abuse. It scarred me mentally and even now, a year and quarter on, I still suffer from nightmares and panic attacks.

I know a lot of you have read my post about Anxiety and Depression (here) and this 'relationship' was a massive part of contributing to that situation. He was a horrible, manipulating person and he used his strength and my weaknesses against me to keep me in a situation that I should have never been in. He made me think that I was nothing without him. I went through a lot in those couple of months and it was incredibly difficult to get out of. It even took me a good six months to even feel the tiniest bit safe in my own bedroom, but I moved on. Or at least, I've done my best to move on.

Source

Getting out of that kind of 'relationship' is the most difficult thing. I say 'relationship' in inverted commas when talking about the experience last year, because I don't feel like it should be called a relationship. I was manipulated and forced and completely not in my right mind. To say that I needed my parents and the police to remove me from that situation, puts that in some perspective. My parents first intervened in the 'relationship' when they found some articles online about the guy I was with. Without my knowledge, they got in contact with people in my town that knew him and had had experience with him and in the end got in contact with the police who were working with Clare's Law. They helped me escape the grasps of him and helped me understand what he was like and what situation I really was in. Domestic Abuse was first mentioned by the two police officers assigned and they offered me help to try and come to terms with what had happened.

Clare's Law is a law where friends and family have the right to know if you are in a relationship with somebody with a history of domestic  physical or mental abuse. The Law was created after Clare Wood was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in 2009 and was rolled out across the entirety of England and Wales in May of this year. This was after a pilot of the law within Wiltshire. The pilot did an amazing job with helping me and I could not be more thankful to the officers that helped me and my family get away from him. You can find more information about Clare's Law here. Clare's Law and the officers that were on his case (he was apparently known in my area) helped me so much and they were a massive part of me being able to move on.

Moving on from that situation has made me so much happier.  Right now, 1 year and 3 months since the situation last year, I'm sat at opposite ends of the sofa, legs intertwined with my new boyfriend. From everything I've experienced (and I know there are people out there that have gone through a lot more than me) I'm so happy that I've now found him and that I feel so loved and so looked after. It's a complete contrast to what I was in just over a year ago. Moving on is the best thing I've done and for all of the people reading my blog that are within a horrible relationship or an abusive relationship, whether that's physical or mental, just know that you deserve better. Nobody deserves a situation where they're not appreciated and are being hurt. Men or Woman. Find the help you need to get out of it and you will be able to stand strong. I managed it, with the help of my friends, family and even the police, there's a lot of help out there and it's only an ask away.

I'm writing this today, because of a video that I saw circulating on Facebook recently. A girl was speaking to the camera about relationships that consist of domestic abuse (mostly physical in this case). She said that a person in a physically abusive relationship should be grateful and stay in that relationship. This video angered me so much. After being through a relationship like this, hearing someone clearly so ignorant to the whole situation and idea of  Domestic Violence actually made me cry. It angers me so much that somebody could be so ignorant. I think it's so incredibly important that the message of Domestic Violence is spread around and that Clare's Law is made more widely known and not messages from silly little girls like that video.

If you are in a relationship, no matter how old you are, if it is physically or mentally abusive in any way, this is NOT normal. Go to somebody for help.

Clare's Law helped me an awful lot and I wanted to try and share my experience and how I managed to get out of it with you all to try and spread the word. Clare's Law needs to be known about, a lot of lives could be saved by the knowledge that the law can allow.

Have you seen the video I'm referring to? What were your opinions on it?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments...

New Schedule

Hello you lovely bunch.

After making a return to my blog last week and then being incredibly busy, I have decided that I'll be changing my blogging schedule until after Christmas. I've become a right busy bee and just cannot find the time that I want or need to put into my blog posts. I think you all know how much of a perfectionist I can be and I'd rather give you one or two decent posts than three half-assed ones. So, in light of this, I'll be changing my blog schedule from Tuesday, Friday and Sunday to a Wednesday (possibly an additional post each week if I find the time, keeps your peepers alert for those). I'm sorry if you'd like to see more from me, I know I've been a disappointment recently and this is just adding to that list, but I'd rather give you the best of my abilities than rushed and semi-thoughtless posts.
I hope you can all stay with me and I'll see you on Wednesday!

Love you all and thanks for being here for me!

Christmas Wish List 2014

Usually, I must admit that I find it very easy to sit and put together a wish list. I (shamefully) consider myself a shopaholic and because of that, I find it difficult to not have a list as long as my arm of things that I'd like to own. Unfortunately, sometimes because of this it does become harder to suggest things for people that are in their budgets as I often buy most of the things I want myself. However, most of the time it is easy for me to reel off a list of things that I would like, whether that's the new Mulberry bag or the latest L'Oreal lipstick release, but this year, I've found it very difficult to think of anything that I'd genuinely ask for for Christmas. Don't get me wrong, Of course I've managed to finally put a very hefty wish list together, but it has taken me the best part of 3 hours and a couple of failed attempts previous to sitting down to write this post today. I'm actually very happy in my life for once and there's  nothing I feel like I need or desperately want to have in my life. The below products are things that I'd like, but could definitely live without. I'm actually quite proud of myself for this and can't wait to get paid and get back to buying presents for my friends and family.

Review | Luster Premium White Pro Light*

I don't know about you, but having white teeth is such a must nowadays more than ever. Now, I'm not talking Simon Cowell bright, but as women, it's nice to have some pearly whites. There's nothing worse than popping on your new bright red lippie and noticing your teeth aren't as bright as they could be. Recently, I've been testing the Luster Pro Light Teeth Whitening System* which uses an accelerated whitening method to brighten your teeth quickly and without causing any tooth sensitivity. I've never tried a tooth brightening product before that hasn't been a tooth paste and I've really liked the results of this product.

This Product is based on 20 treatments for you to see a difference - I know what you may be thinking, that's a bit much perhaps? But no, this is just 20 simple 2 minute treatments. The Luster Pro Light Whitening System* prides itself on being easy, without messy strips, uncomfortable trays and can be completed in 3 simple steps. I really like the fact that this kit also comes with a treatment guide, with guidelines on the best time schedules for best results, whether you have only the time on the weekend (20 treatments over 2 days), during the week (20 treatments over 5 days), or the full week treatment (20 treatments over 7 days). Honestly for me, I think I'd find the 7 day schedule easiest after I trialled this product over a weekend and 10 treatments on each day, although not too time consuming, was a bit of a pain in the bum.

The kit includes a 'pretreat' Whitening Solution, an Activator Whitening Gel and a Dual-Action Whitening Light. Both solutions have an applicator brush attached to the bottle lid and surprisingly, smell appealing. In the past, tooth whitening pastes that I've tried usually don't smell too good. I found the minty scent of the Activator Whitening Gel freshening and found that the pretreat Whitening Solution was almost odourless.

To the results!

As I said before, I opted for the 10 treatments over the 2 day weekend. Using the shade guide to determine what shade of white I wanted for my end results , I decided to aim for four shades lighter and I wasn't disappointed. I wouldn't say that I saw a huge improvement after these 20 little treatments, however there was definitely a noticeable difference, more so than with other products I've tried in this short amount of time. I've been pretty impressed and I'd definitely buy the refills for this product / this product again in the future.

You can purchase the Luster Pro Light Whitening System from Boots for £37.49 .RRP £49.99   Link

Simple Gift Guides | Him and Her

It's almost that time of year again. The cold winter is upon us and the nights are getting darker and darker earlier and earlier and that just means one thing. Christmas is coming! I can't tell you how excited I am for Christmas this year. Not only, have I got some lovely Christmas and New Years plans, but this year I also have the wonderful Jordan to share it with (sorry soppy moment over with!). This year, instead of doing the usual Gift Guide for £xx and under, I've decided to just do two simple gift guides for him and her. Slightly Lazy, I admit, but this year, I want to keep all of my ideas safe to my heart so that Jordan doesn't get any ideas!

Top 5 Christmas Fashion Must Haves

top 5 christmas

Christmas means one thing. Crazy Fashion. And if there's one thing that I love most about Christmas, it's most definitely the crazy fashion. Who doesn't love a good Crimbo jumper?? I think the one above is honestly the best I've seen in a while - I have to say, I'm still absolutely gutted I missed out on the Topshop Gingerbread man one last year, but this is definitely becoming my chance to redeem myself!
The New Look Red Bodycon dress is also a fave for this year. I'm very tempted to buy it for New Years in Leeds and can't wait to try it on!

You can find the above items here:

Guest Post | Top 10 Long Hair Tips for Women

Long hair is a dream of every girl and woman of the world. Every one of them wants long stunning hair but a huge majority of them don’t know how. Majority of us don’t know what we put in our bodies can affect our hair growth too. Using a good routine for hair care can prevents us from hair breakage as well as dull and dry hair; and it can also give you what you have always dreamed about long perfect hair.

Source

So let’s go through the Top 10 Amazing Tips to grow your hair long and strong:

1 -The first step in growing your hair long is to removing the damaged hair. Go to your hair stylist and ask him/her to remove all the damaged hair and style the rest of them. This is a hard step for most of the women but believe me, you can never get your desired hair if you don’t do this.

2 -Never shampoo your hair more than thrice a week, and never use hot water for washing your hair. Otherwise it will lead to hair breakage and make your hair dry. Change the manner you wash your hair; use cold water to wash your hair. If it’s not possible for you to shower in cold water you can simply wash your hair in the sink with cold water.

3 -Massage your hair 1 – 2 times per week, it will flow blood to your head and all the hair growth nutrients will be transported to your scalp; resulting in better hair growth.

4 -Dry your hair with precaution when they are damp. Never rub them; just gently dry them otherwise there is a chance you might break your hair by rubbing them with towel.  Try to use wide mouth comb while combing damp hair, but make it a habit to comb while your hair are dry.

5 -Conditioning is must. Try conditioning your hair after showering, it will add moisture to your hair and prevent hair dryness.

6 -Raw eggs remedy is the best and most natural remedy for your hair. Apply raw egg on your scalp for 20 – 30 minutes and then wash your hair. It will bring such positive changes to your hair which no other thing can.

7 -Say no to harsh chemicals. Try using natural oil and remedies like avocado oil, almond oil, olive oil as this natural oil have no competition when it comes to effective hair care.

8 -Eating more protein will ensure proper hair growth. Eat fish, chicken, beef, eggs etc. Moreover eating omega 3 fatty acids will ensure proper shining and freshening effect to take place in your hair. Eat avocados, salmon, nuts and flaxseed oil.

9 -Proper, stress less-less, sound sleep will ensure that you have healthy natural hair. It will give your head more time to transfer effective nutrients to your scalp.

10 -Drink fresh water. At-least 3 – 4 litres a day. It will ensure proper functionality of your body cells, resulting in an indirect hair growth advantage.

The 5 Product Face | Day to Night

It can be hard being a girl. There's always the issue of having too much makeup to choose from when we go on our many travels or just staying over at someone else's house. I know that I always have the question of, 'Would it be rude to take all of my makeup to Beth's house?' or 'Would it look like I'm moving in if I leave a second blusher and Mascara at my boyfriends?'. What us girls need is an essentials bag. It's taken me a while to narrow down my many many makeup products to just think of a couple that I could work with on a daily basis, but I think I've cracked it!

I was challenged recently to come up with a '5 product face', as you can tell by the title of this blog post. My challenge was, not only to think of a day time look with these 5 products, but to be able to use these 5 products to transfer it into an evening look too.

Day:

A simple sweep of  BareMinerals 'warmth' bronzer in the hollows of your cheeks and in the standard '3' shape along the outline of the face for a healthy glow.
A light dusting of NARS 'Orgasm' Blusher on the apples of the cheeks.
A light covering of 'Frisk' from Urban Decay's Naked Basics 2 palette over the eye lids and 'skimp' on the inner corner of the eye.
A thin line of Benefit's They're Real Liner with no cat-eye flick!                                                     A light coat of MAC's Viva Glam 1 lipstick for a slight coverage / no lipstick!

Night:

A slightly heavier handed touch of 'Warmth' bronzer by BareMinerals, not to look orange though!
A dusting of NARS 'Orgasm' Blusher on the apples of the cheeks, sweeping back to the edge of the temples.
A base coat of 'Cover' from the UD Naked Basics 2 Palette, with 'Skimp' on the inner corner of the eyes and 'Primal' packed on to the outer corner and part way through the crease for a 'smokey' effect.
A thick slick of They're Real Liner with a defined cat eye flick.
A defined layer of MAC's Viva Glam 1 lipstick for a bold lip.

What would you use as your 5 products?

Would you be able to stick to just 5 products for your 'essentials' for a day to night look?

Review | Ozeri 4x3 Motion Digital Pedometer* | Fitness Post

Ozeri 4x3 motion digital pocket 3d pedometer | LINK

A lot of you know that I really enjoy my exercise. I'm the kind of girl that will get up on a saturday morning, hungover or not and go to bootcamp - rolling around in the mud, army crawling round obstacles, that kind of thing. When I heard about this Ozeri 4x3 motion Digital Pocket Pedometer, I jumped at the chance to give it a review. I'm always looking for ways to try and measure and control the amount of exercise I'm doing and this is a perfect little gadget for doing just that. It's lightweight and can easily fit in any pocket (try the tiniest of zip pockets in the back of my lycra running leggings!) or can be used with the supplied strap.

Unlike most pedometers where it's usually really unreliable unless kept perfectly horizontal, this Ozeri pedometer uses tri-axis technology to provide accuracy in any kind of position - perfect for hanging around your neck/wrist whilst running too! I also love the fact that this pedometer tracks a lot more for you than just your step count; it can also track your distance, average speed, time spent exercising and (most importantly for me) the calories that you've burnt. I found the instruction manual really handy and after an initial start-up found the device really easy to use.

This is the perfect device for anyone trying to understand more about their activities when exercising. The accuracy is amazing and it shows far more results than your average pedometer. It's a little pricey at £39.99 (currently on sale on Amazon here for £15.95), but come on, it's not exactly your average cereal box pedometer! It's definitely worth a try and especially in the sale, is really good value for money.

Natural Latherings - 3 Step Skincare*

If you've been following my blog for the last year then you would've probably seen how many skin care routines I have tried and loved. I'm a girl that is definitely obsessed with having spotless, smooth skin and with that comes a lot of product trialling. I've tried a lot of the 'high end' 3-Step Skin Care Routines and  really liked them, however found that for the hefty price tags (of around £60 for the lot) they didn't last very long. Even though some of them really did help my skin, I'm not made of money and it can be very expensive to have to keep forking out on Skin Care.

Recently, a colleague of mine introduced me to his Girlfriend's brand of homemade luxury skin care products. I was hooked as soon as he told me about some of the ingredients and was so excited to try the 3 step skin care products.

Natural Latherings is a Wiltshire based 'All Natural' Skin Care Range that specialises in Luxury Skin Care Products and Handmade soaps, without the expense of those (slightly over priced?) 'big name' brands! I really love that the range is Paraben free; it's a big must for a lot of us beauty lovers and really makes me trust the brand more, knowing that there aren't any harsh chemicals being massaged into my face every day. I've honestly fallen in love with this range and with a fraction of the price of brands like Clarins and Cinique, I definitely recommend you to get trying!

Natural Latherings Cleanser with Honey 150ml* | £8.99 | Link

Cleanser is a big thing for me; I'm honestly shocking at removing all of my makeup and a good cleanser needs to be able to get those stubborn little bits off before I snuggle up into bed for the night (or collapse drunk, but hey, at least I remember to cleanse before that happens!). This Cleanser not only smells amazing, with the richness of the honey and a gorgeous subtle hint of coconut, but it also tackles those stubborn areas of makeup and clears my skin. I love the creamy formulation and how soft and gentle it leaves my skin feeling. It doesn't feel harsh on my face as I massage it in (especially on my problem areas) and the antiseptic properties of the honey works on my blemishes and pesky spots nicely without stinging - always a pet hate of mine! I have to say, this Cleanser is definitely up their with the best. My favourite cleanser has been pushed aside and this has taken pride of place on my bathroom cabinet.

Natural Latherings Toner with Citrus 150ml* | £8.99 | Link

Again, Toner is something that in a skin care routine, I feel like I can't go without. Toner removes all of the extra 'crap' in your skin and really just gives your face a clean slate ready for your moisturiser to work it's magic. I spray a couple pumps onto a cotton pad and wipe all over my face, focusing on any spots or blemishes that I have to make sure all of the dirt is brought out of them. The citrus scent within this toner is lovely yet not too harsh and I really think the ingredient adds a little extra to the toner. I love how this makes my skin feel really fresh and if it's had a deep clean. It's not as strong as other toners that I've tried and doesn't give me that almost stinging sensation (which I have to admit, if not too harsh, I kind of like as I feel like it's doing more for me) but I've definitely still seen results and haven't had any more major break outs since using - always a risk when you originally change skin care brands! For £8.99, you can't go wrong!

Natural Latherings Moisturiser with Honey 50ml* | £8.99 | Link

I honestly don't think I can rave about this moisturiser enough. I'm not usually a massive fan of facial moisturisers, for the fact that I'm always terrified that they'll clog up my pores and I'll have a massive breakout - silly, I know, but you can't blame a girl for having a little doubt, can you? I typically stay away from heavy, creamy moisturisers and stick to light, thin ones, but this moisturiser has definitely swayed me. Again, this moisturiser has a lovely subtle honey and coconut infused scent and it leaves the skin feeling so silky smooth. I also found that a little really goes a long way. Originally, i scooped out a hefty blob on the end of my finger and instantly regretted putting it all on my face. After an embarrassing moment of trying to get the excess back into the pot, I was left with the tiniest amount which nicely massaged into my skin and sank in within seconds. It left me with lovely feeling skin and hasn't broken me out so far!

I've been really impressed by this Natural Latherings Skin Care Routine and have most definitely been converted from my over spending ways. These products have proven themselves to be up there with the best and with price tags of just £8.99 per product, it's really not breaking the bank! If you head on over to the Natural Latherings website here, you can even buy all three products as part of their Skin Care Sets for just £22! Considering that's the usual price of one of my top-branded products, it's not really something to shy away from! There's also some great Christmas gift packages and lots more naturally made products such as Handmade Soaps, Bath Salts, facial washes, body creams and more new products coming soon!

Make sure you head on over here and take a peep and if you're in the Wiltshire area, keep an eye out at local markets for this amazing range!

Zoella Beauty

zoella eyesIf there's one thing all of us beauty bloggers know, whether we like her or not, it's that Zoe Sugg is one to follow. For the last couple of years, Zoella has been a huge inspiration for me. Having grown up literally 5 minutes from where she grew up and seeing her every now and again when she worked in my local New Look, it seems all a little crazy that she's gotten to where she is now. I don't know her at all, but like many others in the beauty blogging world, we're all bloody proud of her and strive to achieve even a fraction of what she has. It's crazy to think that she came from the a village in the middle of nowhere, to where she is now. It's definitely inspiring and I congratulate her on everything she's done.

One of the main things that you will all know about recently that she's achieved is her own beauty range. At first, I must admit, I was a little sceptical. I was torn by the idea of a gimmick 'celebrity' range, but in all honesty, this is far from it. It really seems like  Zoe has put her all into this range, taking into massive detail the scents and relating the products to what she loves and what her viewers would like. I think it's great to see products at such great prices and a range where you get so much for your money.

zoella beauty 2

I am insanely impressed by the 3 products that I purchased. The 'Blissful Mistful' Scent is absolutely gorgeous and for 45ml for £8, it's an absolute steal! I'm actually thinking of getting a couple more of these for friends for Christmas. I also adore the scent of the candle, it's got such a light and fresh smell and doesn't over power when burning, which I love, for £5, you can't go wrong with that! The last product I bought was the Eyes Makeup bag. For £8 again, this is such a large and good quality bag, it fits so much in and is the perfect length for makeup brushes also! I actually bought two of these and I'm so glad I did as they're so nice!

Well done Zoe! We're all so proud of you!

1 year old!

It's been a hectic couple of weeks in the Morris household and I must say, as in my previous post, that I am very sorry I've been a bit absent this past week! Unfortunately, the hectic week happened to occur at the same time as BekyLou's first blog birthday. I've been quite disappointed I haven't had the time to celebrate properly, but at last I can! Take a peep below at some of my favourite posts from this past year!

At the beginning of the year, one of my most loved and most popular posts was one including my first 'brave faced' picture - I've defininetly had a lot more of these fine moments on instagram since! In this post I talked about my 'Hangover Pampering' tips and tricks! Definitely one for when you're a teen like me! You can find this post here

One of my most loved posts this past couple of months has been my part of my Healthy Living Series. My 'Simple Home Exercises for Abs' post got a lot of loving and I even managed to recreate some of my exercises on my Youtube channel. You can find the blog post here and the video here!

Of course, we all know I love my food! I couldn't help but share my favourite Pasta Bake recipe with you all and I hope over the next coming year I'll be able to share a lot more of my faves with you! This post can be found here.

Another post I'm most proud of. I described my journey with Anxiety and Depression in a post this time last year. It was the hardest post I've ever had to write and still takes that place. I'm so glad I wrote it though, as I found it helped a couple of you and also the comments made me feel so much stronger and supported. You can read my journey in this post here.

Obviously, my blog wouldn't be here without all of the makeup and beauty side of things, above I blogged about the first bloggers meet that I organised! I'm hoping to organise another one soon! Read all about the event here!

And then there's the standard birthday of the blogger post! Another will be coming in the next month along with a wish list and such birthday related posts! I'm so excited to be turning 20 on Halloween! Of course, this also brings out a lot more Halloween related posts and tutorials too! I cannot wait :)

I really appreciate all of the followers I've gained over the past year - It means so much that you've all come along on my journey and stuck with me! Let's hope BekyLou's 2nd year is as great as her first!
