Review | The Taming of the Tights - Louise Rennison + GIVEAWAY

I was recently given the opportunity to read 'The Taming of the Tights' by Louise Rennison*, I've never read a book by Rennison before and so was excited when the (quite hefty) book popped onto my door mat. Having seen the film rendition of Rennison's other book series entitled 'Confessions of Georgia Nicolson' ('Angus, Thongs and Perfect snogging' - one of my all time faves by the way) I knew that this book must be something that I would be into straight away. I picked it up, swished my Lush Bubble Bar around in the bath for a couple of seconds and then relaxed for over an hour reading, submerged in the soapy water (two birds with one stone, clever eh?).

Louise Rennison is well known in the literary world for being the Best Selling and Award Winning author of the phenomenally successful 'Confessions of Georgia Nicolson', which had a whopping ten books in the series and was translated into 34 different languages! Not to mention, also being transformed onto the stage and into the fabulous movie staring Aaron and Georgia that I mentioned above. She has won a numerous amount of awards including the Nestle Smarties Book Prize, the Michael L. Printz Honor Book and the Roald Dahl Funny prize for ‘Withering Tights’. After all of this, there is no surprise she's often named THE author for teenage girls.

'The Taming of the Tights' is the third installment of the 'Misadventures of Tallulah Casey' series; a perfect book for a teen girl who is starting off her journey into woman-hood and all things boys. It has a brilliant balance of humor and reality for (protagonist) Tallulah and is a great light-hearted read. I'd definitely recommend reading the first two installments of this series first though - joining the journey at the last installment was quite difficult to get my head around to start with. However, after figuring out who 'wild boy' Cain and 'nice boy' Charlie were, it wasn't too long before I was hooked and just couldn't put this book down. Below is the press release Blurb for this fantastic book - I thought it would be best to add this in then to ruin it all with spoilers!

TAMING OF THE TIGHTS is the 3rd of the Misadventures of Tallulah Casey series, which also include Withering Tights and A Midsummer Tights Dream. Tallulah Casey is putting all thoughts of wild boy Cain behind her. He is literally an animal in trousers… oo-er.  Not like nice boy Charlie (who she’s totally not thinking about either). The Tree Sisters are chasing those golden slippers of applause at performing arts college but Dr Lightowler seems hell-bent on spoiling everything for Tallulah. And with all her mates loved up, can Tallulah resist the call of her wild boy. Packed with boys and mates, join Tallulah Casey and pals for more (boy snogging) misadventures and maybe you too will feel the urge to put on the Golden Slippers of Applause.

You can buy this great book on Amazon here.

Healthy Living: Post Christmas Dinner!

2 sleeps until 2014!

We all know that over Christmas we get a little bit distracted by the magic and all of those shiny wrapping papers of individually wrapped chocolates. It's just something that happens to all of us and we cannot help it. The famous 'Holiday weight' is a bugger to push and so me and Emma (mentioned in my previous 'Healthy Living' post, link here) have decided to put together some post-crimbo fitness tips and tricks for you!

The first -
Resist the choccies! Put them back - just do it! You will not be able to start shifting this little extra weight if you do not stop eating. Harsh but true - no more festive treats for you, Christmas is over! Try and resist the gorgeous treats by opting for a healthier snack instead. Let's be honest, do you really need to eat right now, or is it just because they're being waved under your nose. Exactly. Listen to Beky, she at least thinks she knows best!

Numero Dos -
Go for a winter walk - Yep, that's right, get off of your bottom and doing something active. The gym may be closed or you may just not have time for it due to family commitments, but who says you can't go for a nice relaxing walk with them? Take the dog, your granny or just take a stroll on your own. It doesn't have to be far, but a nice wintery walk is always one to please not only the family activities but also your guilt over eating that extra Yorkshire Pud at the Crimbo lunch!

Three -
Alcohol doesn't need to be your numero uno this Christmas / New Years. Yes, it is time for celebration - but do you really need that glass of wine or bottle of Cider at every turn? Cut down on the booze on the daily basis and then you won't feel so bad when those fireworks starting popping and you're guzzling that champagne - or vodka - who's judging?!

Fourthly -
Your new years resolution is to get to the gym more often, or at least go for a run once a week. It's a horrible though, I know. But believe me, once you start, you will want to keep going. It gives you such a great feeling and the effects on your health is amazing. You can definitely feel it. Swimming is also another great option, I find there's nothing better than an early morning swim, wakes you up and get's you feeling amazing for the day ahead!

Guest Post | Christmas Eyes and Lips | Blogmas Day 24

1 sleep until Santa!

By Kim Radley

Hey Everyone!

This is Kim from my little blog KIM RADLEY! Super excited that I get to guest post on my gorgeous friend Beky's blog!

As I was lucky enough to steal the Christmas Eve guest post space, I thought I'd do a Christmas Eyes and Lips post showing you all my favourite looks that people have been sporting this time of year.

First off, eyeshadow has been playing a big part in some of my favourite eye makeup looks; golds, silvers, browns and blacks all make statement looks but add a bit of festive tones to the eyes. These are some of the best in my opinion:

This brass brown colour is gorgeous, the winged effect created with the eyeshadow is super flattering as well.

Make sure to pair with some fake eyelashes and red lips like this lovely lady has!

This is personally my favourite of the eyeshadow looks I came across; the transition from silver, to gold, to black is flawless and creates a dramatic look. The thin eyeliner along the top lid frames the eye and brings the whole look together.

For a more subtle eyeshadow, a simple gold eyelid is still festive and brightens the eyes making them pop. Again with the red lips is a perfect pairing!

If you are a bit daunted by these eyeshadow looks, do not despair! Complicated eyeshadow is not at all necessary in order to make a festive statement. Lipsticks come in so many different colours, shades, textures etc etc, you're bound to find one for you and for Christmas!

These are my favourite shades at the moment that compliment the Winter season:

A subtle deep berry red draws focus to the lips and accentuates that pout! Simple makeup really compliments the colour, and doesn't scream IVE TRIED REALLY HARD!

My go to lipstick colour this Christmas will definitely be the plummy/purple shades. I find it dramatises my look instantly. I pair with simple brown eyeshadow and eyeliner, without the winged effect.

If you're lucky enough to be able to pull off the "true red" shades, then I say GO FOR IT! Red is of course associated with Christmas, what with Mr Clause sporting it each year! This is the perfect Christmas lipstick colour.

Or of course if you fancy going all out with the Christmas theme, have a look at these amazing examples!

[snow queen eye makeup]

[candy cane lips]

Hope you all enjoyed this post and have a good idea for what Christmas look you'll be pulling off tomorrow!

Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year

Healthy Living: A Healthy Body Attitude | Blogmas Day 23

2 sleeps until santa!

Happy Christmas Eve Eve my lovelies! Yes - it is a thing! And I honestly cannot believe that it was this time last year when I put my Christmas tree up! I don't know what was wrong with me, but I can happily reassure you that this year, it's been up and loved for the past 23 days.Being in the blogging industry can be quite difficult when it comes to having a positive body image and a healthy attitude to the way you look. I know for me, this has been something I've struggled with for a while - and even though I never thought I had a negative body image, I can see now that I was striving for a better look. Through being in bad circumstances and a bad relationship, I stopped eating and dropped almost 2 dress sizes. I didn't realise this at the time but it wasn't healthy at all. There is no way that you should ever starve yourself to try and look better. I am generally happy with the way I look now and although I have those silly hangups about myself that most of us have, I am happy with my size and figure. I could be healthier, but that's something I'm still working on.

Recently, Carrie Fletcher posted a video on her Youtube Channel here, where she discussed how she is happy with how she looks and doesn't care what people say to her as long as she knows she's happy and healthy. I was inspired by the way she talked about her love for her body and about how she managed to stand on camera, measure herself and let us all know exactly what she weighed. I think more of us should have this outlook and although it can be difficult to gain that self-esteem, it's something we should strive towards. Carrie has a great view on this subject and I really think she is a great role model for girls of all ages.

Emma, in her gym wear - cheeky selfie?!

I have a friend; Emma, who also has a Youtube channel here. She doesn't talk about the subject in the way Carrie does as such, but has been making videos tracking her weight loss. She's also happy about how she looks and doesn't care too much about what people say to her - she's losing this weight for herself and making herself healthier along the way. Like Carrie, she's confident with sharing her more 'sensitive' information, like how much she weighs and some of her measurements online with all of her viewers and because of this, Emma's been my inspiration to start doing more exercise and to start eating healthier. She's even lent me this book called 'Run Fat B*tch, Run' which you can buy here, which has totally changed my way of thinking when it comes to exercise and about chucking out those dammed choccy bars - It is a very 'tongue and cheek' kind of book though, so don't take what is written too seriously!

I am such a huge believer in positive body image among us girls (and guys) and so I'm going to follow in the footsteps of these great ladies and show you how I look now (and how I looked just a couple of weeks ago). I'm happy with how my body looks and I feel comfortable in my skin, which for some people can be a struggle. I do, honestly feel at the moment that I've been eating a lot of rubbish foods and haven't been doing any exercise, so I'm not 100% happy with how I feel in myself now (compared to when I originally wrote this post - yes, this sentence has been added in), but I think that when I get back into exercise I will feel a lot healthier. I want to get across a message that it doesn't matter what you weigh or what your tape measure says - you are you for what's inside and nothing and no one should make you feel bad about yourself. As long as you are happy and feel healthy, that's all that matters.

Me, Yesterday

Me, a month ago.

Don't forget to check out Carrie's inspirational video here and Emma's amazing channel here. They're both great examples of feeling good about you and are great role models

Winter Comforts | Blogmas Day 22

3 sleeps until Santa!

When I first think of Winter, I instantly think: defrosting my car, fluffy socks, Christmas Costa's, Festive Yankee Candles and snuggling up in bed watching 'Miracle on 34th Street' - the colour version with that cutie Mara Wilson. It's one of my favourite seasons and not just because of that magical day that is December 25th. Winter is the time when I can be my inner recluse without feeling guilty about it; I can stay in cuddled up in my duvet and watch films to my hearts desire, can eat all of the sweet sticky goodness that I want and I don't have to feel ashamed of lighting one of my all-time favourite Yankee Candles, Christmas Cookie whenever I desire.

When Christmas time comes around these are a few of my favourite Winter Must haves.

Fluffy Socks, Christmas Movies, Gingerbread cookies!

Candle Tart Burner, Christmas Jumpers, Christmas Cookie Yankee Candle & Lush Snow Fairy!

What are yours?

How to get Long Hair | Blogmas Day 21

4 sleeps until Santa!

As many of you may have seen, I have REALLY long hair - and it's still not as long as I'd like it to be! My hair is my pride and joy and the day it passed my waist really was a great one. Now, I'm not claiming to be an expert with these tips; these are just steps that I have taken to keep my luscious long locks and to keep them healthy.

I've always been told that you should cut your hair every six weeks, I haven't  really listened to this rule as I never really have the time, however I find that keeping an eye on the ends of my hair is the best tell-tale to when I need my hair cut. Split ends are never wanted. I do everything I can to prevent split ends in my hair and quite honestly it does prove difficult. Making sure not to concentrate heat or too much pressure on the ends of your hair is key, I don't use heat on my hair to style it, so this is very helpful, but when blow-drying, I tend to stay away and stick to just the main body of my hair and the roots. Keeping the ends of your hair healthy is the best way to keep length to it - the less damage, the less you'll need to have cut off when the time comes. I mostly find that leaving the ends of my hair to dry naturally is much better, even when towel drying, the ends could be damaged. They're delicate and this is definitely something to remember when lusting after your long locks.

Washing your hair every other day / every coulple of days can be seen (by some small minded people) as dirty and un-hygenic. This is completely the opposite! I make a habit of NOT washing my hair. Using shampoo and conditioner removes all of the natural oils from your roots and this is the worst thing for you if you are wanting to grow your hair. These oils are the oils that help your hair to grow and you shouldn't think twice about letting them do their job. I wash my hair every other day usually, I use shampoo and conditioner and leave the conditioner in my hair for around five minutes to fully condition it. On the days where I don't wash my hair, I spray in the tiniest amount of dry shampoo and shove it up into a topknot. However, once in said topknot, if it looks good enough and i'm not doing anything too fancy, it can usually end up staying on my head for a good few more days, with just a few extra pins shoved in to help it live longer!

Another tip that I heard somewhere and now use on a daily basis is to mix up your hair products - In other words, don't use the same shampoo and conditioner every time you wash your hair. For this, I have two sets of them at all times and alternate every time I wash my hair. I then buy two completely different sets the next time I'm purchasing. This way, your hair doesn't get used to the products and can still be washed fully. Using your one type of shampoo and conditioner on your hair every time you wash it can be a bad thing because your hair can get used to it - it will 'fight back' as I like to call it and won't work on your hair. In the past this has happened to me and over use with one shampoo and conditioner set has left my hair oilier than before I washed sometimes. Never good. My favourite shampoo and conditioners are by John Frieda, now usually this is where I would specify the series, but honestly - apart from the Blonde series - they all work amazingly on my hair! I also love the Aussie 3 minute leave in conditioner, I use this just on the ends of my hair and leave in for 5-10 minutes. I find that the longer you leave it in, the softer my hair is. I've also heard that the 'New' shampoo bar from Lush is really good for encouraging hair growth so shall definitely test this out soon!

Blog's I'm Loving | Blogmas Day 20

5 sleeps until Santa!

As many of you know, I am all about the blogger love. I adore finding new beauty/fashion blogs to follow and some that I have followed recently have become my absolute favourites. Here on BekyLou, have been advertising blogs for free over on my 'Advertise Here' page for a while now and as I grow and think of charging for my advertisements in the future, it saddens me a little that this has become a 'for profit' thing now. Don't get me wrong, I do pay to advertise on other blogs and I will (when I gain a substantial following) start charging for advertisements on my own blog, however I think it's important to keep spreading the bloggy love when you love a blog. You can't put a price on something that you really enjoy and love to read. That is why I have decided to make this a monthly feature. 'Blogs I'm Loving' will showcase (as it says on the tin) blogs that I am loving - kind of like a blogroll, but with more detail!

Thumbelina Lillie -

I absolutely adore Megan's blog 'Thumbelina Lillie', her style is so cute and inspirational and her posts are so up my street. I lust over almost all of the fashion posts she publishes both on her blog and on instagram! She's also such a sweetie and lovely to talk to over twitter! Check out her blog above and give her a follow, I guarantee you'll  fall in love with her blog as much as I have.

Cosmetic Crave -

Again Hannah's blog is another one of my favourites this month, she's so lovely and her reviews are so persuading! I've already bought a couple of items from posts on her blog - my purse isn't liking her as much as I am, I must admit. Hannah writes lovely beauty posts and also features guest posting spots on her blog every month, which you can sign up for by just giving her an email. Take a look at Hannah's blog my following the link above and give her a follow!

Kim Radley

I tweet about Kim's blog quite a lot, as a friend of mine I am a little biased, but she genuinely does have such a lovely blog. She's also currently doing a beauty course at college, which makes her beauty posts all that more interesting as she writes posts on beauty tips as well as her reviews and OOTD posts. Take a look over at her blog with the link above and give her a follow, she's a relatively new blogger and would love your appreciation!

A Simple Melody -

Melody is a brand new blogger too and her blog is a mixture of beauty and lifestyle posts - I especailly love her posts regarding her tattoos because I've been wanting one for a while and it's great to know what it's like - isn't it? She also guest posted on my blog a while back and the post had a great response! Check out her great blog with the link above and give her some twitter lovin'.

Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle

Danielle is also another friend of mine and I love her blog for all of her DIY beauty products! It can be really expensive to buy all of your beauty products all of the time and Danni has found a way to create your own inexpensively! She also posts great beauty and health advice. Use the link above to check out her blog and show her some love.

I hope that through these links you have found some great new blogs. Keep an eye out on my blog by following for the guest blog posts too - another way to find interesting and new blogs!

Skin Care Routine | Blogmas Day 19

6 sleeps until Santa!

Hello Lovelies! There are only seven more days until Christmas and I don't know about you, but I am getting increasingly more excited for it as the days go on. The feeling of getting up on Christmas morning and slipping on those new PJ's that you've just unwrapped is one of the best, but one that isn't so good is having dry skin - It's just one of those things that drags me down and feels like a huge weight. I've got combination skin, so I'm quite lucky that my skin is usually rather nice to me, however in the Winter, I definitely notice the difference as those cooler days come about and the winds get harsher. I was told not so long ago, by the lovely Simone from Eltoria's Secrets, that I should change up my skin care routine and add a couple of steps - this was not only for the dryer skin, but also to control those pesky breakouts. My God, she is a savior! For the past couple of weeks now, I have been using the products below and I have noticed a massive difference in the way my face has been feeling; so smooth and nourished and dare I say it, almost blemish/spot free *touch wood*.

Simple Kind to Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes

I rave about these wipes a lot. Now I know that wipes aren't the best thing for your skin, but I really find that these are just perfect for me, they remove so much, including waterproof eyeliner and mascara. Simple makeup wipes are a product that I have been using for years; I don't think I'd change these up for anything, paired with their Eye Makeup Remover and a trusty cotton pad, they manage to clear my face effortlessly and carefully. Hey, if they're good enough for Cara Delevigne, they're good enough for me!

No 7 Soft and Soothed Gentle Cleanser

When Simone told me that she cleansed twice a day I almost didn't believe that it could be that good of a step in your skin care routine, I'd never bothered with it before and didn't think it mattered whether I cleansed or not. Hearing from both her and my sister how much cleansing really helps keep devilish spots and blemishes at bay, I decided to add it into my routine - yep, I was proven wrong, It really helps clear my skin and I have most definitely noticed a difference in the amount of blemishes I have been getting. I decided to start with my sister's holy grail cleansing product and I love it. I still need to try out some others, but so far this is a staple in my routine.

Lush Tea Tree Water Toner

Another product recommended by the sweetie that writes the amazing Eltoria's Secrets (what would I do without her, eh!?) is the Tea Tree Water from Lush. Another step I'd never really heard of is using a toner. Basically, it gives your skin an extra clean and removes all of the dirt etc from your skin that you can't really see and as Tea Tree is antibacterial, this one also kills the majority of bacteria on your skin - Perfect for keeping those spots away again! I've been loving this product ever since I started using it and as an avid tea tree lover anyway, this product called to me straight away, I didn't need a lot of persuasion to add this to my basket!

Clean and Clear Blackhead Clearing Daily Scrub

I've used this daily scrub for a very long time now. It's something I've done for over two years, every night before bed. I don't use it all over my face, but focus it mainly on my chin, above my lip and on my t-zone (nose and forehead) I find that it does a great job of keeping my face blackhead free and feeling fresh ready for bed. The only thing I've found recently with this scrub is that it dries my skin out a lot more in the winter after use, so I've had to apply a slither more moisturiser than normal.

Lush Skin Drink

Another amazing recommendation by Simone, Skin Drink is a great little moisturiser from Lush which feels so light on my skin, but still does the job perfectly! Skin Drink is made with sesame oil, almond oil, evening primrose oil and cocoa butter. The sesame oil is such a nourishing little extra for your skin and gives the moisturiser such a lovely nutty smell. I've said this with all of these products so far, but as a serial forget-er when it comes to moisturising, my face has lovingly welcomed this little gem with open arms. It's been a lifesaver during these winter days and my skin has never felt better!

Lush Oatfix and The Sacred Truth Face Masks

As a little extra, twice a week, instead of my Daily Scrub, I like to use a face mask to give my face a little pampering and a deep cleanse. I've fallen in love with Lush recently (as you can probably tell) and both of the face masks I have tried in the past couple weeks / months have been ideal for my skin, having definitely made a dramatic difference to it. I find giving my skin a deep cleanse in this way twice a week is perfect for getting rid of any of those unwanted pimples that just won't leave and for getting a deeper clean of your pores. Using the Lush face masks are even better,  not only because they smell amazing and are fun to apply (I like making a bit of a mess with Oatfix, my inner child creeps out and loves to just mess around with balancing bigger lumps on my face) but they're also made of fresh and natural ingredients, which are so much better for you.

What products do you use in your skin care routine?

Review | MAC & Topshop Lipsticks | Blogmas Day 18

7 sleeps until Santa!

Recently I have become obsessed with lip products - being a beauty blogger has undoubtedly made me change my mind and fall in love with these gorgeous things. Basically, what I'm trying to say, is I blame you all for my lacks of pennies and excess of lipsticks.

Topshop Lipstick | Innocent & Topshop Lipstick | Beguiled

I've never really had the opinion that Topshop makeup products would be any good. I've always felt that it's just another one of those extra things that the store could add on and make a few extra quid from. Boy - was I wrong! I really should listen to people when they tell me not to judge a book by it's cover! I am in love with these bad boys. My first purchase was 'Beguiled' , a berry shade which, although I never thought would look good on me or suit me, is now one of my favourite go-to lipsticks. It's so moist and lasts a great length of time before needing another coat. The second is a more girly colour of lipstick. Again. I never thought that this would be a shade that I would go for - As much as my Dad may call me Barbie, I most definitely am not into that 'Barbie' look. However, coming across this gorgeous pink shade completely changed my mind. It's a gorgeous colour and with the same formula (I presume) as Beguiled, I had to pop it onto the counter and make the cheeky purchase.

MAC Creme Sheen Lipstick | Fanfare

My first ever MAC product. Can we just appreciate how pretty this colour is please?! I was so excited when I first slid my debit card into the machine and punched into those four numbers that secured this product as my own. Walking out of the shop with my MAC bag in hand and new lip product in my clutches was a great feeling. The lipstick itself is amazing - sorry, I know that's a rubbish description, but for my first MAC product, I was not disappointed. I bought a 'Creme Sheen' lipstick in the shade 'Fanfare', it's such a great formulation and so far I haven't found it to be too sticky or too dry at all. It has a great 'shelf life' (as I like to call it), which is great for me especially, because I always forget to reapply throughout the day! This may be my first MAC lipstick, but it most certainly will not be my last.

And it wasn't! Merely days after writing this post originally I did the naughty - I bought another one. Ladies and Gentlemen, from Nicki Minaj's collection - Viva Glam. The most vibrant pink colour I have ever seen and have ever tried. I absolutely love it. I was so shocked that this colour suited me when I tried it on in Debenhams at the MAC counter. Again, this is a great lipstick which stays on quite a while even without my (new) beloved LipCote (review coming soon) and it is amazingly pigmented. It's such a great shade to wear and I feel like such a Barbie when I'm rocking it (hello, Disney Princess / Barbie dreams?!) I was right about MAC, these will definitely not be my last lippies!

Which is your favourite brand of lip products?

Review | Trevor Sorbie Straight Shampoo & Conditioner | Blogmas Day 17

8 sleeps until Santa!

My hair, as I have said in previous posts, is a pride of mine. I love how long it is and how easy it is to work with. I look after my hair fairly well, with deep conditions occasionally and washing it every other / couple of days. The main part of my hair care is changing up my shampoo and conditioner every time I use up a product and so when I find new products that I can try out it excites me very much.

Recently I purchased these two lovely looking bottles above from a Boots on 3 for 2 - where else would I buy my beauty / hair care goodies?! They were pink which first enticed me ( I know, I know, don't judge a book by it's cover, but guys, PINK!) and they honestly looked like they would be great products. I naughtily flipped the cap on the conditioner first of all and it smelt divine! I was almost sold, my favourites (John Frieda Frizz Ease) were the ones I'd just ran out of and so I knew I was definitely looking for something new, what sold it, was the 3 for 2 on hair care. You just cannot refuse a good 3 for 2! So I snapped up these Trevor Sorbie 'Straighten' items and also one of my beloved John Frieda conditioners for when I was done and headed to the counter.

I was so excited to use these products (you can see my excitement in a haul post here) so you can imgaine my disappointment when I realised that they really didn't do anything for my hair.I can't say I saw much difference in my hair with the shampoo, but then clean is clean, I guess... However, Usually, I leave my conditioner in my hair for a good 5-10 minutes in the bath/shower whilst I relax or shave my legs and such things, etc etc... but I found that doing this with this conditioner just made my hair greasier than when I first stepped foot into the shower. A few days later when I washed my hair with these products again (let's just say Batiste was my savior the couple days in between washes) I left the conditioner in for only a couple of seconds whilst I dispersed it throughout my hair, leaving only a tiny bit of it on the top of my head and making sure I washed it out thoroughly and quickly. Disappointment struck again as it still left my hair greasy beyond belief.

These aren't a brand that I'd be willing to buy again, I think I'll be sticking to my trusty John Frieda and Tony & Guy from now on. It's sad because I always love finding new products that I get on with, but I guess you can't love them all!

Let me know if you've tried these products before and how you've gotten on with them in the comments below

Hello, My name's Rebecca and I'm a shopaholic | Blogmas Day 16

9 sleeps until Santa!

Picking up a new lipstick in MAC or a gorgeous new Primer from Benefit can be so thrilling; handing over the cash or your shiny plastic debit card can be painful, but it's just something that you can't help. Shopping, for me, is exciting - it's an adventure and has become something that I now do on a regular basis. It's an obsession and a delight and something that sadly, needs to stop. Enter Spending Ban. I've always thought of these as a silly thing that shouldn't have to be put in place - surely you have will power people!? But, alas, now, I am having to enforce one on myself. I don't know what it is; maybe it's the festive period, the magic of Christmas and all things sparkly and shiny and new that have been in the shops recently, but I've found that I haven't been able to say 'No'. My poor bank account has hated me since my Birthday, back at the end of October and now after purchasing my car, It's time that things changed. Spending ban is in full force as from today. The presents have all been bought and paid for, I've bought myself a new bag and purse (post link) ready for my new 'sophisticated' job (no more pulling pints for me) and I need for nothing else until at least the end of the year. Yes - I know, that's not a very long spending ban to be on... but the sales! I shall allow myself a set amount of cash for the Bristol Bloggers Meet Up  and after that, I'm back on it in full force! Promise.

Here are a few of the things I have bought recently. Naughty. Please, don't judge. They were just so pretty.

What's in my bag? | Blogmas Day 15

10 sleeps till santa!

Every girl needs a hand bag. It's something that is just a must-have for all of us ladies and honestly, I couldn't live without mine. I stock up on everything that you would ever need and if I could have Mary Poppin's ever lasting carry-all I would snatch that bad boy up in seconds. A couple of days ago I made the very impromptu decision to purchase this gorgeous Zara bag. At a not-so-hefty price of £39.99, it was in my clutches within seconds of entering the store and was soon resting nicely in a paper bag and swinging by my side as I finished my shopping.

I like to be quite a tidy person and for that reason, my bag has lots of 'mini' bags/makeup bags inside it to store all of my 'necessities'. Yes - Inverted commas are needed for 'necessities' as I probably don't need to haul all of this stuff around with me on a daily basis! The first item that I carry around all the time is the most important of all - my purse. I also recently purchased this beauty; it appears I was in need of a massive restyle of my handbag and all that was inside! This gorgeous coral themed purse is so useful, with a clip pocket at the back and zip pocket within the main fold, it has everything I need to organise my cards, money and receipts. At just £17 from River Island here, I thought this was also quite a good little buy - although, unlike my new bag, this took a lot more thinking about before I took the plunge!

Second and third 'mini' bags within are my Jack Wills makeup bag and Kurt Geiger purse (links here and here respectively). In these I just keep basic makeup products for touch ups and my favourite lipsticks including two Topshop ones and my two new MAC ones (yes, also new - bring on this spending ban!). I've never really carried makeup around with me before, but as a newbie to the 'blogging' world, I thought it would be a good time to start!

As little extras in my bag, just 'thrown' in - lord help my OCD organisational side! - I carry around my trusty Tangle Teezer and a tube of Soap and Glory's hand food. Not to mention, the billion and one packets of gum and Lemsips - just in case! I honestly adore this new bag and know that I will love it for such a long time to come, I'm not the kind of girl that goes through bags like she does underwear, I like to buy a bag that I know will last me a long time. Great analogy, huh?!

I'd love to know what you all think about this post and what you keep in your handbag. Let me know in the comments below or send me a tweet over to @beky_boo94.

Danger! Cosmetics to Go | Blogger Event | Blogmas Day 14

11 sleeps until Santa!

Happy Day 14 of Blogmas my lovelies! I hope you've enjoyed my posts so far - I can tell you now, I have most definitely enjoyed writing them for you gorgeous lot! About a week and a half ago, I was invited to the 'Danger! Cosmetics to Go' bloggers book launch at the Lush store in Bath. I had an amazing time and loved how the event was so intimate - definitely made it feel so much more special.

Myself, the lovely author, Melody, Clair and Dorothy!
Getting a lovely hand massage from one of the staff at the Bath store with Snow Fairy Massage Bar
I arrived promptly at six, after a spot of shopping previously with Melody (from A Simple Melody) and we were greeted with a gorgeously chilled glass of Belvoir Fruit Farms 'Eldeflower and Rose Presse' as we waited for the others to arrive. After meeting the author of this brilliant book - Mira Manga (link) and having a group photo, we learnt a little about the book itself and were told lots of little secrets that link 'Cosmetics To Go' and the brand we all know and love now that is Lush. It's amazing to think that some of the brand favourites have all come about from products that were previously sold through Cosmetics To Go's catalogue order service.
We then had a brilliant tour of the Lush store and were introduced to all of the Christmas products and all of the Lush faves in detail, which was great as it's always exciting to learn new things!

The most delicious soft drinks ever?

typical me, tongue out.
The night ended with chatter between us all and being given an amazing goody bag filled with some great products - including a personalised signed copy of the book and some of the products that have been around (more or less) since the beginning of Cosmetics To Go and Lush and an exclusive couple of products that have been recreated with original ingredients and packaging especially for us lucky ladies and the launch of the book. I thought this was such a lovely touch - It's so nice to be able to try products that were essentially the start of the company we all love today.

These little cuties have got to be my faves!
Can we please appreciate the sparkles made of seaweed?!

So many bath Ballistic's!

I had such an amazing night and am so grateful for being invited - so thank you so much to @LivvyGlorney for the chance to be apart of this great night. Don't be afraid to check out the lovely girls I met tonight! Melody, here. Clair, here and Dorothy, here.

What are your favourite Lush Products?
